Learn a rule from examples
Separate fitting training examples from performance on new data.
In supervised learning, training uses examples with labels to adjust a model. Predictions on new examples then use the learned parameters. A good fit to training examples does not prove the model will perform well on new data. Keep evaluation data separate from parameter tuning.
Handcrafted teaching data. You adjust one parameter manually; real training usually uses an algorithm. A and B are class labels.
